Once the carpet is separated from the tacks along a strip you start to get a handle on it.

Each piece of carpet was also wrapped around the edges of the stairs and around the balusters so i had to remove the staples holding it in place from underneath green arrow below.
I started at the bottom corner of the stairs by using a crowbar to pry the carpet away from the tack strip.
Cut the carpet with a utility knife under the nose of the landing.
I don t routinely eat off of floors lol but if i had to i could totally eat off these stairs soooooo sooo happy that the nasty dust mite infested carpet is long gone.
Paint the treads black and the risers white.

Start at the top of the stairs and remove the carpet with the vise grips and utility knife.
The carpet is held to the stairs along tack strips.
Stray staples and nails will be scattered throughout the material so continue wearing gloves.
2 pull carpet over to the left until reaching the spindles 3 cut or tear off carpet and put in garbage bag 4 tear up padding and put in garbage bag 5 pull up any staples that could be stepped on.
Be careful as you rip and pull as there ll be staples or nails in the carpet.
If not start at the bottom and use your nail puller to loosen a piece and pull from there to rip the carpet up.
There ll usually be a loose spot somewhere.
Disposal of old stair carpets is best done in heavy duty trash bags.
